Superstar
The Superstar featured a full leather upper for a durable and classic look, a thick padded tongue for comfort and support, and increased padding around the heel for a little extra comfort.
This upper helped the Superstar earn its “Shell toe” nickname, as an extra layer over the toe cap provided additional support and protection. This was extremely functional for basketball and became a popular constant on all models of the Superstar that followed.
The shoe began life as a low-cut takedown of the Pro Model basketball sneaker. But its popularity – already on the rise – skyrocketed once fans of hip-hop saw the Superstars on the feet of Run-DMC in the early to mid-1980s. Laces out and tongues popped, they stomped all the way through the song “My adidas” in 1986.
